Voki

Create a digital avatar online at Voki. There are lots of options for customizing your avatar! You can add a voice using a microphone, telephone, or by entering text with your keyboard. Avatars can be e-mailed to receipients or embedded in a blog or Web site!
Bonus: Students do NOT need an account to create their Voki! An account is free and can be useful if you would like to save your Voki or make changes in the future.

Tip: Write a short script before you start recording your Voki voice. You are limited to 60 seconds and you want to maximize your impact. If you are recording over the telephone, you are allowed to redo your Voki recording twice before the system disconnects and you have to restart your recording.

Use it in your classroom:
  • Students can record short presentations or summarize learned material
  • Students can record a back and forth dialog using different Voki characters
  • Think of the possibilities in a foreign language classroom!

  1. This seems a lot like a technology that I explored called Blabberize. I am interested in using a back and forth dialog between Voki characters. I could see this being used in reading to create a conversation between two characters from a novel or in social studies with two historical figures. What do you think?

  2. VOKI IS AWESOME! I know a teacher in my school that make a voki avatar, linked it on her website. She uses it to inform students about homework assignments and so forth.

  3. I like the idea Zack shared about having thwo characters from a novel having a conversation between one another. I recently did a writing project with my students where they wrote letters in the perspective of one character to another character from the novel we are reading. Voki could take this activity to a whole new level! This is definitely something I want to check out!

  4. I never heard of Voki before you posted about it, and will definitely check it out. It's Web 2.0 sites like this that really broaden the audience for our students.
